Can you answer kissypup’s question about Culinary?:

I have a friend that wants to go to college for culinary arts.
Which college would be the best? He was thinking Le Cordon Bleu.
Also what degree would be better a certificate or an AAS?

Culinary Feedback: Now a days a bachelors in culinary is becoming more and more necessary but an associates is fine as long as he is willing to work. If you are in Europe than Le Cordon Bleu is an excellent school, if you are in the US The culinary institute or Johnson and Wales University are top culinary schools but it all depends on his heart and dedication, it’s an extremely hard field and there is a lot to learn. certificates are a def no, you don’t learn nearly as much as you do if you got a degree. Tell him I said good luck

Culinary Feedback: I to am a former chef and it depends on what he wants to learn, I ama from Canada and our system is an apprenticeship system like in Europe, the US Cordon Bleu schools are expensive, he/she should look at the local ones first, Johnson and Wales along with the CIA (Culinary Institute of America, east and west) are both fine places I worked with people who studied at both in my 20+ years of hotel work in Canada and I did stints in Jamaica, Singapore and Japan.

They should check out all options, as the name may be good but in the long run it how much you learn and then apply it to your work, a chef is job you obtain after many years of work and experience, unlike a mechanic or teacher, you have to pay your dues and rise to the top.

The education is only one part of the equation, then the hard part begins and it is best to be more experienced when coming out of college or culinary school than just a diploma from a fancy school that will get you no were if you cannot back it up.
